DRUG TITLE Protonix (Pantoprazole) Protonix is a proton pump inhibitor which is prescribed for the treatment of severe inflammation and erosive esophagitis which is caused due to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). However, this drug is only recommended for short term treatment (7-10 days) of these symptoms. In some cases, it is also prescribed for Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and similar conditions. MODE OF APPLICATION Protonix may be taken during meals or after it. Take medication as a whole, not chewed. If you are taking antacids you may continue to do so. Protonix is a member of the "proton pump inhibitor" class of acid blockers, which include Aciphex, Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid. Protonix blocks the production of stomach acid. It is prescribed to treat a condition called erosive esophagitis caused by back flow of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Later, it can be prescribed to maintain healing and prevent recurrence. It is also used to treat conditions for which there is a constant overproduction of stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. MISSED DOSE If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If this occurred while taking your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Never take two doses at once. Keep away from heat, moisture and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Protonix out of children and away from pets. |
